This book is a real emotional rollercoaster. I have never read a horror, and it was a real page turner. I loved how the book started quite normal but slowly got weirder and weirder, it was a fun read and was scary but also so cool. This book was about a teen who goes with her family to this house in the countryside for the holidays. A young girl keeps coming into the house and just hanging around, the dad starts acting strange and it just progresses so dramatically that it just makes you want to keep reading. Absolutely adored book and definitely want to read more from Cliff McNish and horror just from this amazing book.
I thought Lily’s Monster by Cliff Mcnish is horror filled, and very well written. The story follows a girl named Holly who moves to an isolated seaside house called Gant House with her family after her brother dies. The house is haunted by a terrifying spirit named Lily, and Holly has to figure out the truth behind Lily’s past before something terrible happens to her family. The plot is tense and is a mix of a ghost story and a thriller. It deals with heavy themes like grief and family control, but it is written in a fast way that keeps you turning the pages. I loved the spooky atmosphere, and it definitely had some moments that made me want to leave the lights on. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves horror and psychological mysteries.
I didn’t really like Lily’s Monster because I thought it was quite creepy, but it was very well written, and the characters were portrayed well. My favourite character is Jack, because I like his character growth and how he went from blaming Lily for their brother’s death to working together to escape. I like how it was written in first person, which emphasized and showed how terrifying the situation was for Holly. Even though I found the end a bit confusing, I also quite liked the ending, and it was interesting to understand a bit more about the spirit. I think I would recommend this book to people who like or watch horror movies since I think it has good elements of horror in it.

As thoughts of freedom kick in looking at the waves she wished that the sea would just bring her down under its waves. But soon the tables turn as an evil spirit is soundly waiting for them. My favourite part was right at the beginning when she is looking at the ocean and getting slight PTSD from her brothers incident. I feel that it was a very deep and meaningful scene as the writer made it feel like a very real and raw moment. I think that through this experience Holly really managed with her Grief and learnt that when things don’t go your way to just get up and find a new way around it. It was an amazing book, it made me feel like I was glued to the cover as I never put it down. Really enjoyable and gave me a few scares along the way. Would definitely recommend and will give out this book as a recommendation any day of the week.
Normally I wouldn’t pick up a horror book, but this one is an exception! I actually enjoyed reading this so much that I couldn’t put it down and it only took me one day to read it.
To start with, my favourite character was Holly but as I got to know Lily, I liked her more and more because she was this little girl who was trapped forever, neither alive, neither dead… It was horrible what she did to Holly’s family but by the end you understood why. Holly dealt with it really well, trying to get her family to escape whilst pretending to go along with it.

I liked the book “Lily’s Monster” because I found the idea of 1 dead little girl who is a ghost being able to control Holly’s whole family one at a time. It was frightening how each of the characters went insane in their own ways. My favourite character was probably Jack (before he got controlled by Lily) because he was making a decent team with Holly to try to evacuate. I was surprised when I found out that the Kryss’sa’nikt wasn’t just a monster that resembled death, but also was a version of Lily’s dead family telling her to meet them in a traumatic way.
